Who we are

Weekday Eats is operated by Jack Read, based in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and the household preferences you share during onboarding (dietary needs, family size, cuisine preferences). We also store your meal plans, shopping lists, and recipe preferences.

On mobile, we may also collect:

• Device identifiers and crash reports (for debugging and stability)
• Push notification tokens (if you enable notifications)
• Basic usage analytics (screen views, feature usage)

Consent

By creating an account and using Weekday Eats, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account, which will result in the removal of your personal data.

How we use it

Your data is used to:

• Personalize your meal plans and recipe recommendations
• Generate shopping lists from your planned meals
• Improve meal plan quality (your preferences may be sent to AI providers for processing, but are not used to train third-party models)
• Send transactional emails (meal reminders, shopping nudges, account notifications)
• Diagnose technical issues and improve app stability

We never sell your personal information to third parties.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate Weekday Eats. Your data may be processed by these services in the United States or other jurisdictions outside Canada:

• Firebase (Google Cloud) — authentication, data storage, crash reporting, and analytics
• Stripe — payment processing for web subscriptions (we never see your full card number)
• RevenueCat — subscription management for mobile app purchases
• Apple / Google — in-app purchase processing on iOS and Android
• Instacart — grocery ordering (only item lists are shared when you initiate an order)
• Anthropic & Google AI — AI services for meal planning and recipe generation
• Resend — transactional emails

By using Weekday Eats, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions outside Canada, where data protection laws may differ. We take reasonable steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this policy.

Data security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication, and access controls on our databases. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for service improvement.

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Children's privacy

Weekday Eats is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA and applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Delete your data (from your account settings or by contacting us)
• Withdraw consent for data collection by deleting your account

You can exercise these rights from your account settings or by emailing hello@weekdayeats.com. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or through the app. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
